This Easter, Thirtyone:eight headed to Butlins, Skegness for Spring Harvest as part of the launch of our newest resource – Raise your roar with Roarry – which helps teach children how to stay safe from harm and abuse by speaking up. One member of the team was especially excited for his first outing...

Roarry loved getting to meet so many children and their families to tell them all about his Ranger Code and resource pack, and to encourage them to 'raise their roar!'

The pack is full of games, crafts and activities, which children can do at home or part of a group to help them learn how to speak out when things don't feel right and to identify who are safe people they can talk to with questions or concerns.

During the week, the team ran free craft sessions for children along with a chance to meet Roarry in person on the stand and a competition to win a cuddly Roarry toy.

The resources are based on Roarry's Ranger Code of four easy-to-remember steps.

Roarry's Ranger Code:
  • When I feel worried or upset I won't keep it to myself
  • I will raise my roar and speak to someone I trust
  • I know which grown ups I can go to for help
  • I will use my roar to speak up for others

Peter Wright, Thirtyone:eight's Head of Communications who has helped to bring Roarry to life said, "We were absolutely delighted to bring Roarry along with us to Spring Harvest this year to meet families, and to showcase our new resources for children. We have been really encouraged by the positive response Roarry has received, and to see people engaging so enthusiastically with his message. Thank you to everyone who came by our stand and who took part in the activities.

As a parent myself, I know how challenging it can be to share important safeguarding messages with our children, so to see parents taking the resources home to their churches feeling more confident and equipped to talk about these important issues has been fantastic."

Roarry will be on the road again soon, but in the meantime to find out more about Roarry and to order your resource pack go to: thirtyoneeight.org/RaiseYourRoar
