Getting started

If you are applying for a DBS check it is because you will be, or already are, working with children or adults at risk of harm, either in a paid or voluntary role that falls within the government's criteria for a check.

In order to process your DBS check with us your organisation must already be registered with us as their umbrella body for processing checks.  If you're not sure if your organisation is registered you will need to check with your organisations DBS Recruiter or Safeguarding lead.  Organisations can register for our DBS service here.

Before you apply

  • Before you begin your application, you will need to know what type of check you are applying for, whether it is a Basic Disclosure Application or a Standard/Enhanced Application.  Check with your organisation's Recruiter (the person who asked you to complete a check) if you're not sure.
  • You must have completed, signed and returned to your Recruiter a self-declaration form.  This form includes your consent for a DBS check to be made and will have been provided by your Recruiter.
  • Your Recruiter should also have provided you with your organisation’s Equal Opportunities Policy and during the application process you will be asked to read our Statement of Fair Processing.

Where to get help

To get help with making your application please see our video tutorials or you can read answers to some of the most frequently asked questions. Any errors on the application form will cause delays in processing so if you have any further question please speak to your organisations Recruiter.
