Response to government proposals for tackling child sex abuse

We welcome the Government’s intention to introduce a mandatory reporting duty in the Crime and Policing Bill. However, Thirtyone:eight believe the current provisions on when to report child sexual abuse do not go far enough, continuing to leave children at risk of abuse. We have sent a briefing paper to Westminster.

Crime and Policing Bill to introduce new legal duty for people to report child sexual abuse

The Crime and Policing Bill (2025) was announced in parliament yesterday (25 February 2025) by Yvette Cooper, Home Secretary. This bill takes into consideration four of the recommendations from the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse (IICSA) from 2022.
