King Charles and Queen Camilla at the state opening of parliament 2024

Thirtyone:eight is encouraged by the new government’s positive focus on national renewal, which includes improving children’s wellbeing and addressing violence against women and girls, specifically with the introduction of the Children’s Wellbeing Bill and Victims, Courts and Public Protection Bill.

We welcome a renewed approach that is appropriately funded and targeted towards those who are most vulnerable in society - children and young people and those experiencing violence and abuse. We look forward to more details from the government on their proposals in due course and hope for appropriate consultation processes and monitoring to ensure implementation and measurable impact for wellbeing outcomes for children and a reduction in violence towards women and girls.

Critically, we ask the government to review the 20 recommendations made by IICSA in October 2022 and outline their proposals to implement these important measures fully. These measures will improve children’s wellbeing, victim support and public protection.
We encourage the government to consider applying these legislative proposals across the four nations, to ensure a consistent approach, and request that ministers engage fully with stakeholders and subject matter experts. This must include appropriate faith settings and communities.

The Thirtyone:eight Manifesto ‘Together we can - a manifesto for a safer society for all’, sets out our areas of interest and activity in relation to legislative and policy change across the UK. Find out more here: https://thirtyoneeight.org/manifesto/
