Meet Our Volunteers

We have volunteers across our organisation, from trustees, to helpline assistants, to administrative support and much more.

Read about the experiences of some of our volunteers below.

Elaine, Business & Membership Volunteer

I have been volunteering in various capacities for nearly 30 years. I was looking for a new role that would enhance my retirement and was delighted when I found this opportunity. I help both the Business, Finance and Membership teams with administrative support and packing up shop and membership resources. This is a lovely charity to work for - the staff are extremely friendly and welcoming and I never leave feeling that my efforts have been wasted. I am included in everything and it is my choice whether I take part or not. In retirement it’s very important to keep the brain active, to maintain any learned skills and self-confidence and this role helps with all of these.

David, Shop Administrative Support

I am delighted to volunteer at Thirtyone:eight because I welcome and value the opportunity to use some of my time in retirement to support the important work of such an organisation.  As I planned my retirement, I recognised the need to remain active mentally, physically & socially and volunteering at Thirtyone:eight readily facilitates all these, in exchange for the satisfaction of alternative reward. There is a warm, welcoming atmosphere in the office and a very sociable environment with colleagues, which with my role combine to provide an extremely enjoyable volunteer experience. I am an appreciated and respected member of the team with the result that I benefit from the trust of delegated authority. I have always aspired to the highest standards and am pleased to be able to apply this approach to my volunteer role with Thirtyone:eight.

Phil, Trustee

I worked as a CEO of a large accountancy firm as my day job, and have supported our local church as one of the Trustees for a number of years.

I reached out to Thirtyone:eight because I wanted to give back and say Thank You for the countless times they have supported Bev and our church over the years. I now volunteer as a Board member and I feel privileged to know that in some small way I am making a difference to many other organisations to help them to strengthen their safeguarding systems and keep those in need safe.

I get a real sense of enjoyment from what I do, and I am excited to be working with people at the Thirtyone:eight team who truly care about the impact they are making.

You don’t need special skills to volunteer, and you would be surprised which skills can be useful. I would encourage anyone who is debating whether to volunteer to take the step, be courageous and try it. You’ll surprise yourself at how much difference you can make and just how much fun it will be!
