Call our Safeguarding helpline

People often have lots of questions, about what to do in a particular situation, when to take action, and who to report issues to.  Our safeguarding helpline is somewhere you can call, anonymously if you wish, to get advice and guidance on these issues and anything relating to safeguarding policy, procedure and practice.

It’s staffed by our team of caring and experienced professionals Monday - Friday, 9 am - 5 pm, with an out of hours emergency service for urgent calls.

People that call our safeguarding helpline, get advice and support about a range of concerns, including:

  • Policy and practice guidance
  • Responding to and managing allegations of abuse
  • Management of offenders in places of worship and elsewhere
  • Issues such as past abuse or re-offending

Year on year, the number of calls is increasing and we're helping to protect more people. So, whatever the issue, give us a call.  You'll always be listened to, and if we can't help, we'll point you in the direction of someone who can. At the end of a call, we will email you a copy of the advice we have given (if you supply an email address), which can be kept by you as a record and stored securely.  All advice given by our safeguarding helpline is quality assured and checked for accuracy.

Any information you provide will be stored in our system securely and retained according to statutory and legal responsibilities.  Further information can be found in our privacy notice

In an emergency (especially if someone is in immediate danger of harm) you should always call 999 and ask for the police.

Questions we may ask you

When calling the safeguarding helpline we may ask you some or all of the questions below to help us give you the right advice.  Having relevant information to hand will help us give you the advice you need quicker:

  • The sequence of events which led to your call
  • What is known about those involved and their families
  • Have you or anyone else had previous concerns
  • Have the police or Children's Social care/Adult Social Services been involved
  • Their age if it is a child/young person
