Working in schools
Organisations running activities in schools (or other places of education) such as clubs, assemblies, pastoral support and activities connected to the curriculum, should make sure these are specifically mentioned within their safeguarding policy and that they have an agreement in place with the school detailing the activities.
The agreement should cover:
- A commitment that the organisation has undertaken safer recruitment including criminal records checks where appropriate.
- Arrangements for maintaining appropriate confidentiality especially where an organisation provides counselling services.
- Arrangements for reporting safeguarding concerns, accidents or incidents requiring medical attention whether in school hours or outside e.g. regular clubs or special trips
- Agreement that should a concern be raised about a worker, that the Safeguarding Lead for the organisation is informed.
- Clear practice guidelines provided by the school for the workers from the organisation.
