What is ‘Raise Your Roar With Roarry’?
‘Raise your roar with Roarry’ is a safeguarding resource designed to equip and empower primary-age children to speak up about their concerns.
It’s estimated that as many as 1 in 5 children will experience at least one type of abuse in childhood, but many children don't tell anyone about it because they are unsure how to say it and who to tell. Children need to know that they can, and should, speak up when they feel worried, frightened, or unsure about something, know who they can speak to, and that they will be listened to and believed. These are important lessons for children to learn, and all settings should include this teaching as part of raising awareness around safeguarding.
We know that talking to children about safeguarding issues can feel daunting. Raise your Roar has been specifically designed to help children’s leaders confidently address issues of emotions, harm and abuse with children within a faith-based setting.
Who is Roarry?
Roaary is a lion who features throughout the 'Raise your Roar' resources.
He is a friendly and trusted guide who helps children to navigate dangers and learn important skills such as how to raise their voice, (their “roar”) and speak up when things aren’t right.
The image of a lion is familiar to Christians. It is often associated with wisdom, authority and courage, and of God himself, who is described in scripture as a Lion in both the old and new testament.
God is also personified by lion characters in books, such as Aslan from the popular C.S. Lewis series - The Chronicles of Narnia.
Raise Your Roar with Roarry Resources
The resource pack contains a mixture of games and activity ideas, craft and learning, and storytelling videos, all designed to make it easy to share the central messages with the children.
We’ve created the resources to be flexible so that they can be used in a variety of settings and session formats. This includes, but is not limited to, Church Sunday morning sessions, mid-week groups, uniform groups such as Cubs and Rainbows, children’s clubs, home-schooling and family settings.
A perfect time to use it would be during a church-wide focus on safeguarding, such as during a Safeguarding Sunday event, where the whole church can consider the same issues.

The Leader's Guide
The leaders' guide contains everything a children’s leader needs to run a Raise your roar with Roarry session. It gives you top tips for planning, suggests ideas on how to use the activity pack, offers memory verses, bible stories, prayers and more.
The Ranger Code
Roarry’s Rangers encourage children to follow the four steps of the Ranger Code:
- When I feel worried or upset, I won’t keep it to myself.
- I will raise my roar and speak to someone I trust.
- I know which grown-ups I can go to for help.
- I will use my roar to speak up for others.
Activity Sheets
The initial Roarry pack comes with 10 activity sheets, 10 sticker sheets and badges. The activities include games, colouring, puzzles and more. You can buy top up packs if you need more than 10 packs for your group.
You can also access additional online and downloadable Roarry resources to enable you to keep this vital conversation going for longer.
Storytelling Videos
To accompany the printed resources we also have a selection of animated story and song videos. The videos feature the story of a child from the Bible who used their voice to speak up.
Short, simple and engaging, they are a great way to remind children to raise their roar!
Parent's and Carer's Pack
This pack equips parents and carers to confidently encourage their children to speak up when something feels wrong, and how to identify safe people to speak to.
Reinforcing the Roarry message at home helps children to understand that speaking up is important, whether at home, church, school or a club.
